Rowin's tale of Horror and Beauty:
Rowin was born in Efrafa to a golden doe named Sunstain, and a evil gray buck named Micca.. Rowin never knew his father because he was an officer and well in Efrafa not many kittens know who their father is. Rowin's mother was sent to raid a garden and a 6 week old Rowin overheard that where she was sent was in fact straight into the jaws of a homba. Rowin was caught by General Woundwort and as punishment for spying Young Rowin was thrown into a dark burrow everyone called the 'Death Hole' There he was ordered to not speak one word nor look at the face of another rabbit or else he would be killed...
For nearly 2 years Rowin suffered in the dark silence till one day chaos struck Efrafa and he managed to escape from his prison. Nearly blinded from the light of day Rowin ran till he approached the grounds of a warren. The buck hid in a patch of grass as he waited for someone to notice him.
The first rabbit to see him was Cinnamon, but he was not trusted and was set to live in the outskirts of the warren in scrapes. There he met a odd buck named Dogwood. He also learned that Septfoil was a rabbit tough to gain friendship. He also met Psycho who was a prisoner of Efrafa himself. These 3 rabbits soon became the world to Rowin and all he ever tried to do was be loyal and dependable for them. Then the day came when he met Delphinium... It was not long before he knew that this daughter of Woundwort himself was the soul mate he longed for.
Many events took place in Rowin's time at Nepenthes: He found his mother, killed his father, found Blackavar, his twin brother, watched his younger brother grow, and became the Captain of Medicinal Procedure. But as his luck turned Sunstain and her young son, Ice, drowned in the flood. Delphinium dissapeared, A doe named Redivy fell into a coma and Rowin kept her alive through that flood and succeeded in returning her to her mate, Psycho. But as time went by Rowin lost himself in his grief. He ran from the warren. He tore at his flesh as months went by till the day Rowin heard a cry for help and saw a doe being attacked by pfeffil. He thought this would be the perfect way to end his misery, save the life of yet another rabbit and kill his own at the same time...
The doe turned out to be none other than Delphinium as the preffa recognized them and left them as friends. The 2 rabbits returned to Nepenthes, But they were at war and Rowin was set to punishment for leaving the warren and such was to be Septfoil's bodyguard and in protecting him Rowin received deadly wounds to his inner ear causing deafness.
Rowin's psychosis continued as he scarred his flesh in his anger on life. Delphinium helped him gain control but only time will tell if Rowin will ever return to the rabbit that Psycho, Cinnamon, Septfoil, Redivy, Delphinium and Blackavar all long to see...
These 6 rabbits are all Rowin has to look for in his life, only these 6 he allowed to know him and feel him in his misery. They are his reason to live but life has thrown him one to many curves and Rowin has fallen deeply over the edge. Hope may be lost but perhaps Frith will allow them to find it for him...
His Last Year:
Upon the disappearance of his mate once again Rowin was left with 3 young kittens.. However his oldest daughter disappeared with Delphinium.. Also in so Redivy, Psycho, Cinnamon and Caliber where all gone.. Blackavar to having left with Bluebell to return to Watership Down.. Rowin then did the only thing he could do.. He solely dedicated his entire day and night to serve Septfoil-Rah.. He fought in one last war and upon the end he died.. No one really knew what made Rowin loose his mind nor knew who killed him or what he died from for his youngest daughter Lilly of the Valley did not let anyone see his body nor tell anyone where she put it.. In truth only Valley knows that Rowin's grave is in fact in the Large Medicinal Burrow that Rowin himself built.. The burrow has since been deserted and many rabbits believe Rowin's soul still haunts it..
His Last Cry, Rowin's Ghost:
Rowin's ghost was unsettled and could not cross over to the other side with the black rabbit until the truth was told.. And Rowin could think of no other then Septfoil..
As Septfoil lay down all reality seemed to slip from time as the living knew it and in a sense Septfoil slipped into a coma like state and his breathing slowed as his body relaxed and allowed Rowin to take over.. Back in time they slipped through the passage of lost memories and time.. Though their bodies still lay where life was their minds where in another time.. It was this way that Septfoil could see what had happened instead of Rowin trying to explain it.. So Rowin was putting his memories into Septfoil's dream..
It was the calm just after the Hyzornrah War.. Rowin was sitting near the body of his brother in law Aster he mourned for his friend as he watched Septfoil and most of the warren leave for Nildro-Inlé.. Rowin had stayed behind for his kittens where missing.. Rowin felt a rabbit behind him and turned to see the familiar face of a rabbit he had seen back in the Eye of Inlé warren.. Next to the buck was his daughter..
"Parli, This is Savin.." His young daughter introduced.. Valley seemed a little distant to Rowin but he could not pull his eyes off the rabbit he knew was in fact Sabien.. But he did not mention he knew..
Time passed and Rowin was leaving the medic burrow when he was slammed up against the wall of the run.. "Back off old buck, Your daughter is no longer your concern.. What I do with her you will go down just like the rest of the warren.. I will make sure of that.. Thormantle doubted me and now Septfoil mocks my very existence and he does not even know who I am.. But you.. Yes you know don't you.. You will be wise to keep quiet..
Rowin's memories where full of holes as more time passed there came an image of him sick with confusion.. It was then a rabbit came into the burrow.. Rowin turned to him knowing very well who it was..
Sabien held himself as he cuffed Rowin knocking the fool down.. Behind him stood Valley.. "Val, Gather the Efrafan's.. The time is now.."
"Savin?? What are you talking about?? Septfoil is on our backs and I am not even sure what your plan means to accomplish.. We are lucky Septfoil has yet to even discover the underground warren.. That alone is a great accomplishment..
Sabien turned hard on Valley as he glared at her.. "Do as I say.. You are a mind and a mind alone.. Take heed and follow orders and you could become a powerful weapon in gaining control over Nepenthes.. And then and only then will you know what I plan.. NO GO!!" He snapped at her.. Valley left without a word..
Sabien turned back to Rowin.. "You did well.. You trained her to be how she is.. You knew she was a mind didn't you.. That's why you did what you did but you left her alone didn't you.. Yes, You fool.. What do you have to say for yourself??
Rowin could not say anything even if he wanted to.. He could only watch as Sabien circled him..
"You trusted your daughter enough to take the lettuces she brought you.. You knew they where fixed with the herb that would make you lose your mind.. You trusted her enough to believe that it was her doing trying to protect you.. But no.. I made her do it.. It was the only way to get you out of the way.. Yes.. You're the only Rabbit most loyal to Septfoil.. You would have done foolish things and no doubt taking your daughter to your side.. It ends here.." The buck then leapt upon Rowin holding him to the ground as he forced the flower into his mouth and held him in a manor that Rowin had no choice but to swallow.. Rowin convulsed and blood poured from his mouth and nose before he lay on the ground.. Memories flew through his mind.. Memories that now Septfoil could see..
Delphinium giving birth, His kittens growing normal at first but then Delphinium disappearing and taking with her his daughter Lilac..
Rowin always looking for Septfoil to aid him and honor him and dedicating his life to him.. Rowin was forgetting to spend time with his kittens.. Something he did not realize at first but it was a major impact on their lives.. Aspen was gone.. Delphinium missing and with her Lilac.. The only one that was left was Valley and she was as lost and confused as them all..
Rowin was dead.. He was there in spirit through the entire trial he was there when Valley's devotion to her rabbits lead them to tell Septfoil the truth but the damage was already done and Sabien knew it.. He had won.. He killed himself at the trial for he knew that Valley would tell the truth if she knew it and she was close to discovering the truth of all.. Sabien had won.. He sent Nepenthes into a roller coaster run of disorder and what was more ironic about it all was all the blame was on Lilly of the Valley's paws.. Eye of Inlé had an easy pick now..
Rowin's spirit drifted into the dark burrow that Valley lay in.. She was crying.. He showed this to Septfoil now.. It was the night after her trial.. Valley was as lost and confused as a kitten..
"I told the truth and still I am nothing more then a criminal.. What can I do?? How can I show them.. Every step I take is the wrong one.." She whispered to herself as she cried herself to sleep..
Rowin then took Septfoil's mind to the battles of his son and just what his Daughter took to protect him.. He showed him her throwing herself over the kitten and as a shield she became beaten as several rabbits attacked her.. At first break she ran with her kitten and Rowin followed.. Rowin showed Septfoil the final battle when she near home and attacked once more only to fail.. Half dead and very pregnant Valley should have died and would have but her strength came from the desire to protect what was Septfoil's..
Rowin took him again to Valley's burrow soon after her kittens where born and to where She and Thornhill lay.. 2 kittens nursed from her.. 4 dead near her as the parents looked at them..
"Thornhill.. My father dedicated his life to Septfoil, Enough to forget about his family.. Promise me never to forget us.. But I to want to dedicate my life to something.. To my kittens.. All of them.. All of this warren.."
Thornhill smiled at her as he nodded his promise to never leave..
Another day, Valley outside with Coleus her guard..
"Valley he is not your kitten.." He spoke.. As Valley looked back to him..
"I know.. But I love him.. Like he was my own.. Valerian saved me.. I was real messed up.. He saved me.."
Rowin took him another place then.. To just recently.. Valley in the woods with El-Zorn, With her where her 8 week old kittens.. Lilac with them to..
"You know my sister Lilac don't you" Valley spoke to El-Zorn.. And then there came the image of Rowin hanging his head low as he to realized now that Valley had no realization of the abandonment of her own marli and sister.. She thought Lilac was still with her and that this rabbit was her sister.. But it wasn't..
Rowin's time was almost up and he was very drained as he pulled Septfoil into another memory.. One of Rowin's first meeting with Caliber-Rah but Rowin was not looking at Caliber as he sat before him but was looking at Septfoil as the order for him to be taken to the holding burrows Rowin then made a mental dedication to that Rabbit..
Septfoil then saw images flash before him as if Rowin had taken him through a rapid river of memories.. Memories of Rowin Scolding his kittens, of his twin brother Blackavar and of his mate Delphinium and as she left him the first time of Rowin's sickness of self mutilation and of how the rabbits around him pulled him through, Of Redivy and how this dedicated friend stayed with her through the flood almost drowning to protect her from death Rowin died nearly but he pulled through to see that Redivy lived to see Psycho again.. He brought him images of Cinnamon telling stories and of Bluebell and the odd little rabbit Dogwood warning the warren of a fire.. Rowin sped through images of Nu-Beatha and their attack on Agro-Rah when he was alone and on a treaty.. And of Rowin promise to never raise a paw in battle and in that promise he showed Septfoil the battle that Rowin defended Septfoil and in so suffered wounds to his ears to cause partial deafness..
Rowin's memories slowed and became faded as the rain began to pelt down upon the world of the living as if Rowin himself where crying.. He showed him one last vision.. One last Memory..
"Valley, I have dedicated my life to one Rabbit.. And you wish you to do the same.."
Valley glared at her parli and though she was very young she held a fire that could burn.. "I HATE YOU!! And I HATE Septfoil too.. He is a fool and you're a fool to care nothing about us and only him!!" Valley ran from the burrow and Rowin ran but not to follow her but to Septfoil's side..
Now a vision of a grown and wounded Valley, This was shortly after Valerian was returned.. Valley was watching Septfoil leave after have spoken to her.. She turned to Thornhill.. "I though I once hated him because he took my parli away from me.. But I will dedicate my life to not him but to his kittens.. And To ours.. Thornhill, This is our home.. And together we will defend all that it stands for and make sure that Septfoil's name is never forgotten and most of all to make sure the kittens of Nepenthes are never neglected as I was..."
Rowin was fading fast as he was pulled out of Septfoil's mind and back into the living world where his ghost sat outside and waited for Septfoil to wake up.. He was holding his head in shame.. He knew his memories where full of holes and he knew Septfoil would have questions and now was the only time he could answer him.. Rowin's time was drawing close to an end as he waited the sun of Frith pulled through the dark clouds as the storm seemed to have passed by or perhaps they had not even noticed the storm.. And Rowin waited not knowing what to expect..
As you could imagine Septfoil was mixed with many thoughts and wished that he had the power to make it all right and with Rowin's last seconds left he gave Septfoil one last bit of advice and request..
Rowin was fading but he managed to hold on enough to watch his Rah..
"Do not blame yourself, I was blinded by my devotion.. You know the truth Septfoil-Rah, It is up to you what you do with it.. My story has been told so that I can rest in peace now.. But my daughter is still alive and her kittens.. I believe Valley has suffered even more then I.. She is with a doe that holds the same name as her sister and she can not tell the differance.. She also walks thinking that it was her who killed me.. The guilt she holds alone is beyond what I have endured.. I also give you this truth in hopes that you will not make my same mistakes.. Go to your kittens My Rah.. Teach them.. And as far as Valley when you think the time is right could you help her see the truth.. Let her know that her marli and sister walked out on her and allow her to see that it was Sabien who killed me and that her brother Aspen has left her.. She is the Grand daughter of General Woundwort.. He was a great rabbit even though his ruleing went in the wrong way and she is just as great as he.. She should never be ashamed of that.."
Rowin was cut off as a shadow swept over him and for a moment the shadow took the form of a rabbit head black but almost see through with bright red eyes.. And it was gone and Rowin to but the wind left behind carried one last words...
"Everything happens for a reason, Never be ashamed of what was already done.."
