Information on Nepenthes Warren

"We shall fight, and we shall win..."

Background Info

Nepenthes Warren is a rather militaristic warren. They aren't quite as military-centered as Efrafa, but they follow a lot of their examples. This warren has an owsla for a reason: to enforce rules made by the Rah. Not just anyone can be in the owsla, you have to be skilled, cunning, and willing to risk your life for the warren. The warren was named after a vine that strangles other plants until there is nothing alive left but the vines themselves. Caliber-Rah named it after them because those were his first intentions -- to find neighboring warrens, and take them over for himself. He put down that policy once he found out that he would be instantly hated, as he did not want that. He would take over a warren if he found good enough reason to, but not until after the approval of his council.

Soon after the warren's first winter blew over, a strage occurance happens. All of Caliber-rah's rabbits mysteriously disappeared from the warren, leaving only the elil. No one knows the actual reason for this, but there are many different tales, myths, and stories being passed around for it. All anyone knows is this: Caliber-rah came back. He came back as a somewhat different rabbit -- with a new outlook on things. He came back new, fresh, more skilled, and prepared to take his warren back. And he did.

--During Caliber's leadership--

At the moment, Nepenthes Warren is allied with Nildro-inlé Warren. Though, the alliance was not always so sealed. For a long while, Caliber-rah despised Gelphi-rah and her warren, and Gelphi-rah didn't trust Caliber-rah. The initial reason for being allied with Nildro Inlé was that the whole of Caliber-rah's warren threatened to desert if he didn't stop his war, so he was forced to comply. However, now Nildro-inlé and Nepenthes have grown to become somewhat friends, and have even aided each other in battle.

On the other side of the spectrum, Nepenthes Warren is at near-war with Nú Beatha warren, and Marli-Rah Warren. Caliber-rah would like nothing better than to see Agro-rah of Nú Beatha, and Firepatch-rah of Marli-Rah be sent to the Black Rabbit in a horribly gruesome death. Though it makes it harder for him to succeed, being that his two worst enemies are allied together.

--During Septfoil's leadership--

Now Nildro-inlé and Nepenthes are full allies, always coming to each other's aid in their times of need. The Marli-rah warren has been destroyed, but a new warren allies itself against Nepenthes, the Eye of Inlé warren. Septfoil was exiled from that warren by his former Captain of Owsla, Captain Thormantle -- now Thormantle-rah. It wasn't enough for Thormantle to exile him -- he wants Septfoil dead. And now with the power to command the warren, along with a new alliance with the Nú Beatha warren (lead by Talon-rah after Agro-rah's death), he intends to succeed.

The Owsla

If you are lucky enough to be initiated into the owsla of Nepenthes Warren, then that means that you have the skills. There are different sections of the owsla, and once it gets better developed, I will get into better detail. There is one definate requirement for getting into the owsla: you have to fight. If you are not a good fighter, you can pretty much guarentee that you will not get accepted.

The Council

The Council is made up of the smartest rabbits in the warren -- whether or not you are a doe, a member of the owsla, or just a simple member. If you are in the Council, you help make the most important decisions of the warren. Caliber-Rah will hardly ever act unless he has the approval of the Council. The Council is greatly looked upon, and most everyone in the warren gives them respect. Council meetings will be held at random times, but they will always be previously announced, so as to get as many of the council members as possible present.

Mating

Mating is a complicated issue, that can be quite simple. A buck and a doe find eachother, fall in love, and wish to be mated. They should send the buck to go talk to the Rah, and ask permission. If the Rah has his eyes on the doe that is being requested to be mated, chances are, he might deny your request. But he'll give you a fair chance and fight for the rights of the doe. Of course, in the end the doe has final say -- as always, but there's always some sort of mating rituals to be had.

Note: Occasionally, pre-arranged mating will be had (if both parts agree), simply to make the best, strongest, healthiest, fastest rabbits possible.

Having Kittens

The issue of having kittens is rather broad. Once you mate (after permission from the Rah) you can chose to have kittens. Of course, you must discuss the issue with the Rah first. If he thinks that it is not a good time for kittens in the warren, he will deny your request -- but most likely, without any problems, the Rah will give you his blessing. And if he doesn't, you can guarentee that it's for a good reason.
